English by Theatre offers fun and creative bilingual theatre workshops where children can learn and improve their English through play.

Through drama games, improvisation, storytelling and short performances, participants are encouraged to speak, experiment and express themselves in English in a natural and enjoyable way. Along the way, they build confidence, develop their spoken English and expand their vocabulary.

Music, movement and imagination are all part of the experience too.

The workshops are led by Shay and Ophélie.

Shay Schafer is a theatre and improv teacher and performer from the United States who has been working in theatre since 2008. Shay has taught and performed with The Second City in Chicago and is currently a member of The Renegade Saints in Geneva.

Shay, plus wife, plus cats Olly and Kickflip! moved to Switzerland in 2024.

Shay loves working with children and brings a playful, spontaneous and energetic approach to improv, with plenty of humour, creativity and overall being a silly goose.

Ophélie supports the workshops in French when needed and brings her experience as a teacher.

Together, Shay and Ophélie create a welcoming, supportive and stimulating environment where children can feel comfortable experimenting with English, making mistakes, playing with words and expressing themselves.

Whether they are complete beginners or already confident English speakers, participants are invited to learn through doing: exploring, imagining, inventing and bringing stories and characters to life.

We like English being something to play with, experience and enjoy.
